Do you know someone who hated wearing socks, loved the guitar and math; and became a scientist because of a compass? ? Yes, It was Albert Einstein who is regarded as one of the greatest scientists ever. He was born on 14th March, 1879 in Germany to a father was instrumental in bringing electricity to Munich and a mother who loved music. While at school in Germany, Albert was really good at physics and math. He even published his first scientific publication in 1894, when he was just 15 years old! Einstein graduated from the Polytechnic Academy in Zurich, Switzerland in 1900 with a diploma in physics and mathematics, and was later awarded PhD by the University of Zurich.
Einstein developed the first of his ground-breaking theories while working as a clerk in the Swiss patent office in Bern. After making his name with four scientific articles published in 1905, he went on to win worldwide fame for his general theory of relativity and a Nobel Prize in 1921 for his explanation of the phenomenon known as the photoelectric effect.
Einstein's theory of relativity is extremely popular, but he did not win the Novel Prize for it, as it was considered controversial during that time. There are two theories of relativity: special relativity and general relativity. To put in simple words - special relativity says that every person has their own time. One person's clock is different from another person's clock.
As a Jew, Einstein suffered a great deal of prejudice in Germany and he toured Europe making speeches on peace and disarmament. When Adolf Hitler came to power in 1933 Einstein was in California and decided not to return home. Finally, in 1934 Einstein emigrated to the United States where he became a professor of mathematics at Princeton.
Albert Einstein died in New Jersey, USA on 8 April, 1955. A pathologist, autopsied his brain and preserved parts of it for scientific study ? it can be seen to this day at Mutter Museum, Philadelphia. His work still lives on and has made a huge contribution to science in today?s world.
His words live on in our minds- ?Logic will get you from A to B, imagination gets you everywhere??
